With an Expanding Demand the Debate on Biomass Fuels Heats up.

The Energy Boom You Haven't Heard About: Wood Pellets.
Above is an interesting article by "National Geographic", I think its good to have an objective view and even though we know burning wood pellets hugely reduces pollution and emissions for domestic heat production. Its great to see that there is real effort going into studding weather or not biomass fuels will make a difference if used in commercial electricity generation.
So have a read, let us know what you think ... this is some real big picture stuff but it should definitely be included in the Wood Pellet conversation.

How much Heat do you need?

Nifty Calculator
Wondering how much heat you need? The energy wise website has a great calculator, that will tell you what kind of heat you need in your neck of the woods. Depending on what type of house you live in , insulation  etc.

So click on the link above and have a nosey , you will probably find you don't need as much as you thought you did.

Also pays to keep in mind that our pellet fires are designed to heat houses not rooms, and most of them will happily heat anywhere form a 100Sm to 150Sm, and when comparing Pellet fires to Wood burners remember that wood burners are rated on how much thay can consume vs a pellet fire that is rated on what it puts into the room. So an 18kw wood burner is roughly equivalent to a 10kw pellet fire.

Servicing your fire.

Pellet Fires have electronics, motors and moving parts. They need reqular maintenance as well as specialist knowledge to keep them operating efficiently.
So its really important that you get your fire serviced. We recommend once a year or once you have burnt a tonne of fuel in your fire. At Otago Pellet Fires we have two technicians who have the specialist know how to keep your fire running at full tilt year in and year out .

What our Customers have to say.
"No more stacking wood or cutting kindling, and Otago Pellet Fires made it easy. They handled the whole process, even removed our old fire and wrangled a consent out of the council. All we had to do was write the cheque, then sit back and watch the show. We will never go back to a log burner, all that fuss.  With a pellet fire you pour it in, press a button and away she goes."
